Basically, You need to subtract 2 1/2 from 4 1/3, and the remainder is the answer. 2 1/2 = ( 2 * 2 = 4 + 1 ) = 5/2 4 1/3 = ( 4 * 3 = 12 + 1 ) = 13/3 5/2 - 13/3 = Now, we need the same denominator in order to subtract. Both 2 and 3 go into 6. (What ever you do to the denominator applies to the numerator). 5* 3 = 15. 2 * 3 = 6 15/6 -------------------------- 13 * 2 = 26 . 3 * 2 = 6 26/6 --------------------------  26/6 - 15/6 = 11/6 Answer : 11/6 Or 1 5/6
